What should I do when I feel like I’m drifting from my walk with Jesus? When I feel unworthy of His love?

Drifting - Opposite One

It’s not uncommon to feel distant from Jesus at times. Life’s struggles, distractions, or even our own sin can create a sense of separation. However, the truth is that Jesus never leaves us. His love is not based on our performance but on His unchanging character and grace.

When we feel like we’re drifting, the first step is to acknowledge it honestly before God. 1 John 1:9 reminds us:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

God doesn’t ask us to fix ourselves before coming back to Him—He simply calls us to return with a repentant heart. James 4:8 gives this promise:

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

The enemy wants you to believe that you are unworthy of God’s love, but that is a lie. None of us are worthy on our own—that’s why Jesus came. Romans 5:8 tells us:

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Your worth is not found in what you have done, but in what Jesus has done for you. When you feel unworthy, remind yourself that His love is a gift, not something to be earned. Instead of running from God in shame, run to Him in faith.

Questions to Ask Ourselves

  1. Have I been neglecting prayer, Bible reading, or fellowship with other believers?
  2. What distractions or sins might be pulling me away from Jesus?
  3. Do I believe the truth of God’s love for me, or am I listening to lies from the enemy?
  4. How can I take a small step today to draw closer to Jesus?

Encouragement

God’s love for you has never wavered, even in moments when you feel distant. The invitation to return to Him is always open. Like the father in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32), God runs toward you with open arms.

No matter how far you feel, He is closer than you think. Sometimes, all it takes is one prayer, one moment in His Word, or one step of obedience to feel His presence again. Be encouraged—God is not done with you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come to You feeling distant and unworthy, but I thank You that Your love is not based on my feelings or failures. Help me to return to You with a sincere heart. Remind me of Your grace, and silence the lies of the enemy that try to keep me away. I draw near to You today, trusting that You will draw near to me. Thank You for Your never-ending love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
